September is peripheral arterial disease (PAD) awareness month. The disease is such a sleeping tiger when it comes to medical conditions. PAD can cause everything from pain in your legs when you walk to non-healing ulcers in your feet. PAD could potentially lead to amputation in the worst scenarios. More often it is asymptomatic therefore, overlooked. Furthermore, the presence of PAD can result in a significant increase in heart attacks and strokes. If you have PAD or think you may be at risk, please make sure to discuss it with your doctor or vascular specialist to learn what you can do to treat and prevent this disease from causing you harm.
