Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a common vascular condition that can have debilitating effects on quality of life and daily function. The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) sought to develop evidence-based guidelines to support patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders in their treatment decisions about management of CVD.

Dr. Andrey Espinoza, MD, FACC, FSCAI, RPVI is the Medical Director of the Advanced Heart and Vascular Institute of Hunterdon, where he has provided state-of-the-art cardiovascular care since 2004. Triple board certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and endovascular medicine, his practice spans the full cardiovascular and endovascular arena — from complex coronary, carotid, and peripheral arterial intervention to advanced venous care, including venous stenting and ambulatory phlebectomy.
Dr. Espinoza leads an active clinical research program, currently enrolling national trials including ZENITH HTN and OCEAN(a), and has served as principal investigator in more than 50 trials contributing to the approval of novel anticoagulants, lipid-lowering therapies, and endovascular devices. He was a lead author of the 2025 SCAI Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Chronic Venous Disease. He is also the founder of the National Vascular Network (NVN), a virtual vascular consult platform connecting patients and referring physicians with expert specialist guidance.
He trained in internal medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University Hospitals and completed fellowships in cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology at Drexel University College of Medicine — serving as Chief Cardiology Fellow during his training — before bringing his practice from Philadelphia to Hunterdon County.
